The Master of Advocacy degree provides a comprehensive knowledge of and training in core legal subjects of a procedural nature. The main area covered during the taught component include Civil Procedure, Constitutional and Human Rights Procedure, Criminal Procedure and EU Procedure. The professional practice component is intended to prepare you for the profession of advocate, emphasising more practical studies ranging from moot courting to professional ethics.

In addition to the compulsory study-units, students are required to register for five elective study-units (25 ECTS). Either the Year elective and a Semester 1 and a Semester 2 elective study-unit and two other electives from any semester, or one Semester 1 and one Semester 2 elective and three other elective study-units from any semester.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Degree of Master of Advocacy – M.Adv. – and the Degree of Master of Notarial Studies – M.Not.St. under the auspices of the Faculty of Laws.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

learn by doing, thereby acquiring knowledge through experiential learning;
write about and explain the law of procedure;
reflect upon the implications of advice given and propose a course of action in a simulated environment;
acquire various legal skills such as research skills, communication skills, interviewing skills, and legal drafting skills;
participate in simulation exercises;
advice on the law of procedure.
